陽Series CHEER

夏の陽光は、色彩のコントラストを強めます ― 色相差、明度差。
背景色を「群生作」では、色相差で。「少生作」では、銀色との差で表現。
下町の道端を思い起こして…

Summer sunlight increases the contrast of color, in hue and in brightness.
In paintings of groups of plants, I use a vibrant background color to recreate this sensation, whereas single plants contrast against a silver background.
Recalling the wayside of a quiet city street…

個展「還」(2018年3月開催)で発表しました。
初夏から盛夏にかけて咲く「立葵」「向日葵」。名前に「葵」という字がある「立葵」は「アオイ科タチアオイ属」。しかし、「向日葵」は「キク科ヒマワリ属」です。
秋から始まった私の環境体験型表現の画業。熱いのが苦手な春生まれの私です。夏の代表的な花がずいぶんと後になりました。
夏の花「朝顔」「向日葵」は、敬愛する江戸琳派・鈴木其一の傑作があります。「向日葵」の一本作は、描かれており、オマージュ作品になりますので、これらを昇華しなくては…との思いがあります。
画面サイズを (900x600)、(900x300)と 変えて群生、数本、一本を描きました。
青い空、熱射の下 “凛として立つ” 立葵、 “輝く太陽のはな” 向日葵。
鑑賞者に、元気を与えられればと願っています。

These works were presented at my solo exhibition “60” in March 2018.
They are of Tachiaoi and Himawari flowers, which blossom from early to mid-summer. In Japanese the same character is used to write the names Tachiaoi and Himawari, however their Latin names are very different: Malvaceae Alcea rosea and Compositae Helianthus annuus.
I began working on these environmental experience paintings starting with the season of spring. I was born in spring and dislike summer’s heat… yet the most representative summer flowers arrive a good deal later.
The summer flowers morning glory and sunflower became the subject of masterpieces by Edo Rinpa painter Kiitsu Suzuki.My portrait-style paintings of a single sunflower plant have a precedent in his famous work. They are an homage to the master artist, in which I must learn and improve based on his example.
I changed the image size, to 35 ½” x 23 ½”, and 35 ½” x 11 ¾” verticals canvases, and painted portraits of groups as well as single plants.
Under the blue sky and radiating heat, Tachiaoi stand cool and dignified. Sunflowers are like radiating beams of light.
I wish that they may help viewers may feel enlivened.
